Bearded robber hits Downtown-area bank

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A short, black-bearded man robbed a bank near Downtown Tuesday morning.

The FBI says the crime happened around 9:45 a.m. at the Bank of the West branch at 500 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, just east of Broadway.

“He presented a demand note to a teller, who handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect,” the FBI said in a news release. “The suspect fled across the parking lot and down an alley.”

The perpetrator was described by the FBI as a Hispanic man in his late 20s to early 30s and about 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black zip-up jacket, black baseball cap and dark jeans.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the FBI at 889-1300, or Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 843-STOP.

The FBI says it may pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Tips can also be submitted at tips.fbi.gov.
