Sports Speak Up! Readers applaud effort, performance by Weir, Lobos

I HAVE LIVED HERE all my life. We don’t always do things the best, or at all. We rank last or next to last in some important categories. We get tired of being mediocre, or worse. Sometimes we get lucky. Paul Weir left a successful NCAA basketball program to come here and rebuild the Pit’s attendance and UNM’s men’s basketball team. Not an easy job. He did not need UNM. We needed him. Ask Sam Logwood, Joe Furstinger or Antino Jackson and the other players. We did good. Good for us.

HEY, CRAIG NEAL: Remember when you said you “can’t coach heart”? Meet Paul Weir. He’ll show you how it’s done.

TO COACH WEIR and the entire Lobo Basketball Team: Thank You, specifically for “The Effort”. I look forward to the next season! It’s been a while since I felt like that, and this team is responsible. … I would like to congratulate Trey Kell of SDSU. He played like I expected he would, and has been a model of sportsmanship.

THANKS TO COACHES and players for a wonderful season. UNM basketball is back!
