10 a.m. — Detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit executed a search warrant at an address on the 1100 block of 82nd Street SW around midnight and arrested 38-year-old John Florez and 32-year-old Sarah Montoya, APD Sgt. Robert Gibbs said in an emailed advisory.
Florez is employed by a delivery company contracted to deliver merchandise to Ross stores in Albuquerque and is suspected of embezzling merchandise that was supposed to be delivered to the Ross stores, and Montoya was allegedly a willing participant, Gibbs said.
Detectives recovered an estimated $50,000 to $75,000 worth of merchandise from the residence, according to Gibbs.
Police suspect that Florez may have embezzled up to $250,000 to $500,000 in goods over the past eight to 12 months, Gibbs said.
9:34 a.m. — Albuquerque police raided a home on 82nd Street near Sage SW around midnight and APD’s Crime Scene Specialists hauled away two trailers full of possible evidence, KOB-TV is reporting.
Police told Eyewitness News 4 that it was part of an embezzlement investigation, and the material hauled away included clothes and “As Seen on TV” merchandise taken from the home.
Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Gibbs told 770 KKOB Radio this morning that two flatbeds hauled away merchandise valued at an estimated $50,000 to $75,000.
Two suspects were taken into custody this morning, Gibbs told KKOB.
They were identified as 41-year-old John Christopher Florez and 32-year-old Sarah Nicolette Montoya, who are facing charges of embezzlement over $20,000 and conspiracy to commit a second-degree felony, according to online arrest and jail records.
