Sports speak up! Scrap Davie, readers say

KATIE HNIDA is now concerned about the direction UNM football is heading under Bob Davie. Multiple players have accused Davie of misgivings and a class act in Hnida is also wanting change at UNM. I hope Davie is fired before the start of the season so UNM can get past this fiasco and move forward. Davie hasn’t accomplished much at UNM other than beating a 6-6 team on his own field in the insignificant bowl.

THE NCAA basketball tournament for both men and women and the record amount of 3-point buzzer beaters made, may have proven Jim Boeheim right. Boeheim’s strategy is, with mere seconds left in the game and you have a three-point lead and are on defense, you foul. That strategy would have changed the outcome of several games. The most glaring example is, it should have been Louisville and Notre Dame in the women’s final.

HEY BR, instead of whining about the ‘Elite 8 at Valley High School,’ maybe channel your energy into helping your dance team get better. Roswell seems to know the formula for winning with more than 8 girls. Eldorado took 2nd last year and they have a big team. St. Pius took 2nd this year with a large group. Winners find a way to win. Losers complain that it’s not fair.

NMSU AGGIE SPORTS add a lot to our quality of life. UNM Lobos: stop beating up and hamstringing the current athletic department because of decisions made by previous administrations.

SO, HOW’S the intercollegiate athletic competition going this school year between NMSU and UNM? So far NMSU has wins in football, women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s golf, men’s basketball, men’s tennis and softball. UNM has wins in men’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s basketball, swimming and diving. Had the Rio Grande Cup competition been in effect, NMSU already would have claimed the prize.

FOR ALL you “time-zone-challenged” folks out there, here’s a brief tutorial: 7 PM Eastern time equates to 5 PM Mountain time. Got that? It’s actually quite simple. Just apply that methodology to all Eastern time listings.
