Bradbury became a prime subject of the rumor mill regarding the open coaching position at Texas Tech. In fact, according to one Twitter post, Bradbury was already in Lubbock and as good as signed to be the Lady Raiders’ next head coach.
Not the case.
Bradbury was at home Thursday night answering a slew of phone calls from anxious UNM recruits who had seen the posts. Bradbury said he spoke with Texas Tech officials about the school’s coaching vacancy once since New Mexico’s season ended, but he has not been to Lubbock and has not received a job offer.
“I don’t know what started all this but there’s nothing to it,” Bradbury said.
“I spoke to (Texas Tech) by phone for about 10 minutes and that was it. I’ve spent the night telling our recruits I’m the coach at UNM.”
The social media storm later blew toward Minnesota coach Marelene Stollings, whom @wbballhoopscoop declared the Texas Tech frontrunner some 90 minutes after it said the school was “leaning to Bradbury.” UTEP coach Kevin Baker and Western Illinois’ J.D. Gravina also were caught in the rumor mill.
Texas Tech had made no official announcements as of Thursday night.
