East Mountain wildfire contained

A wildland fire burning in the East Mountains has been contained at 15 acres, with all active fire in the interior, U.S. Forest Service District Ranger Crystal Powell said in a news release Saturday night.

The fire produced a lot of visible smoke, but no structures were threatened and no evacuations were necessary, according to Bernalillo County fire and sheriff’s officials.

About 25 firefighters with the Bernalillo County Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service and Tijeras Volunteer Fire Department are working to extinguish the wildfire. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department also supported the effort by making helicopter water drops.
