TRAFFIC: Big Tuesday Shift On Southbound I-25

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Drivers on I-25 headed south, past Bernalillo into Albuquerque are scheduled to be shifted onto the north side of the roadway by the Tuesday morning rush hour.

Starting 9 p.m. Monday and through 5 a.m. Tuesday, southbound I-25 at Mile Marker 239 — essentially at the south Bernalillo exit — will have various lane closures to prepare for the traffic switch, the state Department of Transportation says in its weekly traffic report.

Come the Tuesday morning rush hour, southbound traffic should be sharing the northbound side of the interstate. There will still be two lanes in each direction.

The shift is part of the ongoing interstate reconstruction/widening work going on in the area between the town of Bernalillo and Tramway Boulevard. The shift is needed so crews can focus on rebuilding the southbound side of the roadway.

The DOT reminds drivers that the speed limit in both directions of the project area is 55 mph, and there is “enhanced law enforcement” in the area.

Here are other road-related traffic projects to watch out for this week:

Through Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound Alameda from Jefferson to the diversion channel will have right lane closures in 600-foot increments. Utility work is taking place.

Monday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., northbound Coors at Ouray will have the right lane closed for utility work.

Monday and Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., northbound I-25 at Avenida César Chávez will have the right lane closed for utility work.

Through March 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the Tramway and Central intersection will have various lane closures and activity on the shoulders during a streetscaping project.

Ongoing, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, the Big I frontage road system will have various lane closures in all directions for landscaping.
