ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Drivers on I-25 headed south, past Bernalillo into Albuquerque are scheduled to be shifted onto the north side of the roadway by the Tuesday morning rush hour.
Starting 9 p.m. Monday and through 5 a.m. Tuesday, southbound I-25 at Mile Marker 239 — essentially at the south Bernalillo exit — will have various lane closures to prepare for the traffic switch, the state Department of Transportation says in its weekly traffic report.
Come the Tuesday morning rush hour, southbound traffic should be sharing the northbound side of the interstate. There will still be two lanes in each direction.
The shift is part of the ongoing interstate reconstruction/widening work going on in the area between the town of Bernalillo and Tramway Boulevard. The shift is needed so crews can focus on rebuilding the southbound side of the roadway.
The DOT reminds drivers that the speed limit in both directions of the project area is 55 mph, and there is “enhanced law enforcement” in the area.
