Spokesman Simon Drobik said officers responded to a “shots fired” call, near 12th and Candelaria NW, and found 24-year-old Cody Fair with at least one gunshot wound.
He said Fair died from his injuries about an hour later but did not say if he was taken to a hospital.
“Witnesses were questioned and evidence was taken from the scene to include a vehicle,” Drobik said.
He said homicide detectives are now looking for a 2003 white Ford Escape, with no license plate, in connection to the slaying.
Drobik said that, although the SUV had no license plate, a bill of sale was seen in the back window.
He did not say where exactly the shooting happened or what led to the shooting.
Crime scene tape cordoned off the Laundry Quarters parking lot around 3 p.m., while police vehicles and mobile crime labs crowded the area.
Within the parking lot, a tan car could be seen with its passenger door open and windshield shattered.
The shooting marks the 21st homicide this year, and the first in 10 days after the city was struck by a cluster of slayings from the last half ofMarch into early April.
Drobik said anyone with information about the slaying or vehicle should call 843-STOP.
