ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 3-year-old girl died Sunday morning at Elephant Butte Lake after falling off the boat she was on and being struck by the propeller.
The privately owned pontoon boat was coming into dock at about 10:30 a.m. when the girl fell in the water in front of the boat, said Jodi McGinnis Porter, a state Parks Department spokeswoman. Only a few feet from shore, the girl was fatally injured by the propeller.
“It just was a horrific accident,” McGinnis Porter said.
The child’s name and other details were not released. Authorities did not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, and no one had been charged Sunday in connection to her death.
