Lobo men’s golf in ninth place through two rounds at MWC championships

BREMERTON, Wash. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team ended the second day of the Mountain West Championships in ninth place out of 11 teams. The Lobos shot a 10-over 298 in round two, putting them at a 17-over 593 total.

Freshman Galven Green remains on top of UNM’s leaderboard after round two, shooting a 3-over 75 in round two for an even 144 total. Junior Sean Carlon improved seven strokes from his round one score, shooting a 2-under 70 in round two for a 3-over 147 total. Junior Augustin Holé followed, matching Green’s 3-over 75 in round two for a 7-over 151 total. Senior Gustavo Morantes and redshirt senior Andre Garcia rounded out the Lobos’ field, with both shooting 6-over 78 in round two. Morantes currently sits at an 8-over 152 total, while Garcia sits at a 10-over 154.

UNLV created separation at the top of the team leaderboard on Saturday, shooting an even 288 in round two for a 4-under 572 total. Colorado State holds second after a 5-over 293 round two (1-over 577 total). Fresno State and Wyoming are tied for third, with Fresno State shooting a 7-over 295 in round two and Wyoming shooting a 5-over 293 for 6-over 582 totals.

The final round of the Mountain West Championships will begin at 9 a.m. MT on Sunday, with Garcia being the first Lobo to tee off at 9:40 a.m. MT.
