Aggie Merry shares WAC golf lead

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Las Cruces’ Isaac Merry is in contention for a Western Athletic Conference men’s golf championship through two rounds, but his New Mexico State Aggies aren’t.

Merry shot even-par 70 for the second straight round Tuesday at the Prairie View Dunes Country Club course and is in a three-way tie for the lead. As a team, meanwhile, NMSU was 19-over 299, is 30-over 590 for the event, and in sixth place among seven teams. Missouri-Kansas City, at 11-over 571, holds a four-stroke lead over second-place Grand Canyon.

Merry, an Oñate High alumnus, has eight birdies and one of the tournament’s two eagles. Other Aggies: Tadhg Campbell (74-74—148, 14th); Michael McGilton (74-76—150, 22nd); Tristin Goodwin (73-79—152, 27th) and Ryo Harada (74-79—153 28th). The final round tees off Wednesday at 7 a.m.
