College golf: Lobos, Aggies finish individual work at regionals

New Mexico’s Ingrid Gutierrez finished tied for 48th with her third consecutive 2-over-par 74 on Wednesday, the final day of the NCAA women’s San Francisco golf regional. Her 6-over 222 was 14 strokes behind champion Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA’s 8-under total.

UNM’s Darian Zachek (77-72-78—227, 11-over) tied for 68th. The two competed as individuals as UNM did not qualify as a team.

“I’m proud we had Darian and Ingrid represent UNM at the NCAA Regional,” said Trujillo. “I appreciate the competitive spirit in them both.”

  • On a wet, messy day at the Madison (Wis.) Regional, New Mexico State’s Pun Chanachai (77-76-75—228, 12-over) had the best of her three rounds, but she finished tied for 67th and 22 shots behind winner Nicole Schroeder of Oregon State.
