Lobo athletics: Baseball nips Air Force, softball postponed

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Junior outfielder and La Cueva alumnus Jeff Deimling had four of New Mexico’s 15 hits as the Lobos won 7-6 over host Air Force Friday in the opener of a three-game Mountain West Conference series.

Christian Tripp pitched scoreless ball over the final three innings to earn the win for New Mexico. The Lobos (17-31-1, 10-18) outhit the Falcons (23-25, 11-13) 15-6, but the two teams were tied 6-6 through seven innings. In the eighth, Derek Marshall’s two-out single drove in fellow freshman Connor Mang for the eventual game-winning run.

The two teams resume their series today at 1 p.m. (101.7 FM) with Cody Dye pitching for New Mexico.

Box score: New Mexico 7, Air Force 6

SOFTBALL: In Boise, Idaho, bad weather forced the postponement of UNM’s (14-37, 7-15) Friday game at Boise State (38-14, 16-6). The teams hope to play a doubleheader beginning today at 10 a.m.
