FROM THE COMPANY: Seventy-five percent of the eligible workforce of individuals who are blind or visually impaired are not employed. This statistic has not changed appreciably in the past 25 years. The vision of the NMSBVI is to see that percentage change for the better. As a school of highly trained professionals, the NMSBVI is engaged in supporting employers to learn more about blindness and to envision an individual who is blind on their work-staff. These same educators are deeply involved with each student and family.
FROM THE EMPLOYEES:
• “Creativity and teamwork are encouraged. Everyone values each others’ input and strives for the best outcome for the kids we serve. There is a great work ethic everyone buys into. Lazy is not here.”
• “I am always encouraged to pursue avenues that will expand my knowledge and challenge me, even when I am stepping way outside of my box! I am strongly supported and am given many resources to help me learn new jobs and responsibilities, and given the time to learn them. I feel so fortunate to work in a place where I am allowed to utilize my knowledge and know that it is appreciated, and also allowed to recognize when my knowledge needs to be expanded and allowed opportunities to expand it!”
