ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police homicide detectives continue to investigate after they say a man was dropped off at Lovelace Medical Center, near Downtown, with a fatal gunshot wound Sunday afternoon.
Officer Simon Drobik, an APD spokesman, said Monday that detectives were still trying to identify the person shot and are still working the case.
Drobik said that around 4 p.m. officers were sent to the medical center’s emergency room at 601 Dr Martin Luther King Jr. NE.
“Officers arrived on scene and discovered one male subject with trauma to his chest,” Drobik wrote in an email.
He said the man was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where he died.
Cindy Foster, a UNMH spokeswoman, said UNMH handles almost all serious trauma cases in the state because it has New Mexico’s only level one trauma center.
Drobik did not answer questions about who dropped the man off at Lovelace or if that person or people stuck around to talk with detectives.
“No persons of interest have been identified at this time,” Drobik said.
