RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Firefighters are battling an approximately 2-acre fire in Rio Rancho’s Willow Creek Open Space near the Rio Grande Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Fire Rescue Department.
Deputy Chief Paul Bearce said around 2:20 p.m. reports of smoke and flames in the open space south of U.S. 550 were called in to the dispatch center. He said firefighters are now using a bulldozer to try to form a line around the fire and get it contained.
Bearce said multiple agencies, including the Corrales Fire Department, Sandoval County Fire Department, and Albuquerque Fire Rescue, are helping Rio Rancho Fire Rescue fight the fire.
“We’re throwing a lot of resources at it and hoping to keep it small and contained,” Bearce said.
