NMSU cash campaign life-changing

When the New Mexico State University system publicly announced its largest cash campaign in partnership with the university foundation one year ago, it strived to draw attention to a need. But this need, worth $125 million, involves more than money – it’s about our students.

It’s a need for life-changing scholarships. Thousands of our students survive on the private support that comes from businesses, foundations, alumni and friends who chip in what they can to make a student’s education possible. NMSU has a proven track record of success in equipping our students with the tools and skill sets they need to overcome socioeconomic barriers, ultimately changing the course of their lives and the lives of their families for generations to come.

It’s a joy for us to watch how one scholarship raises a student out of financially challenging circumstances into a newly earned prosperity that impacts everyone in the path of that student’s career. Imagine if every student at NMSU enjoyed the benefit of a scholarship – how many lives could we change across the world?

It’s also a need for expanding community impact. As a land-grant research institution, NMSU has the proud duty of researching today’s issues – local and worldwide – and finding solutions. Hundreds of our researchers, including students, have already started investigating problems like the Zika virus, obesity, food production, water and natural resource availability and more. Improving our facilities and equipment keeps NMSU at the helm of some of the world’s greatest discoveries and critical innovations.

The true need of this campaign is to create a better future, a stronger state and a promising world. This is NMSU’s public way of showing those around us that we, as an Aggie family, have the passion and belief in the work we do together. In just 5 years, you have helped raise more than $90 million toward the campaign goal, including $25 million for students and $39 million in program and research support. An additional $24 million exists in new endowments that will continue to grow in perpetuity and provide sustainable funding for future NMSU students from each of our campuses.

While this deluge of support is already at work making a difference, we still have an opportunity to achieve the campaign goal and meet this collective need. From our students and our faculty to our researchers and our community, the impact $125 million will make is almost unimaginable – but we can’t wait to show you.
