Why look at Clinton affair again?

The articles now coming out after 20-plus years regarding President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky upset me almost as much as the media’s and GOP’s articles and actions did originally.

First of all, I believe there’s a way to contradict the general U.S. opinion that Clinton lied when he said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.” As Lewinsky was reported in papers to have said, “I should be named the Presidential Assistant for B.J.s,” and, “I asked if he didn’t want to go further, but he didn’t.” In other words, they only engaged in oral sex.

I remember reading long ago, I think in Reader’s Digest, an article about Virtual Virgins; these were girls who would engage in any kind of sex except vaginal…. By this metric President Clinton, in fact, didn’t have sexual relations with that woman.

I remember waiting in line at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria, to obtain credentials for an Advisory Committee meeting I was attending. An old and dear Italian friend and colleague was in back of me when someone in the line started talking about the Clinton-Lewinsky affair. He then said loudly, “Doesn’t America realize it’s become the laughing stock of the world?” Yes, such things are ignored, even in the media, in countries like Italy, France and much of Latin America. The USA is still burdened by a considerable number of Puritans and an unfortunate sexual morality that a fair fraction of the world has overcome.

… The unfortunate stories I (have heard and read regarding Clinton and #MeToo recently), I believe, should never have been broadcast or published.
