ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man is dead following a nearly 4-hour-long standoff Sunday morning with the Jicarilla Apache Police Department in the northwest New Mexico town of Dulce.
Someone called Jicarilla police to report a break-in at a gas station in Dulce at about 8:30 a.m., said State Police Lt. Robert McDonald. The man fired some shots at the officers when they arrived, but no officers or civilians were injured.
One officer from Jicarilla police returned fire.
At about noon, officers used a remote-controlled robot to go inside the gas station and found the man dead inside.
Investigators from the State Police and the FBI had not yet determined who the man was, or how he died, McDonald said.
