Two Albuquerque coaches named national HS coaches of the year

Two New Mexico high school coaches won national awards Wednesday night.

La Cueva girls soccer coach Amber Ashcraft and Albuquerque Academy boys track and field coach Adam Kedge earned Coach of the Year honors from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association at their annual convention in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Ashcraft has been the Bears’ coach for 20 seasons and has led La Cueva to eight state titles, the most recent coming in November. With 386 victories, she will be in line to reach the 400-win plateau next season. Twice before she had been a finalist for this award.

Kedge has been the Chargers’ varsity head coach since 2000 and has led Academy to 13 blue trophies, including the last four in a row.

The NHSACA is based in Fargo, N.D.
