Begay III to host charity event

Notah Begay III will host the New Mexico Grande Slam, a charity golf tournament that raises money for children, Monday at Santa Ana Golf Club.

Celebrity guests in the event are scheduled to include incoming Pro Football Hall of Famer and former UNM star Brian Urlacher and country singer Darius Rucker.

Event proceeds will go toward the Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation, which has a mission of reducing Native American childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as local partner organizations that advocate for the well-being of New Mexico’s children.

“It’s not about the celebrities,” said Begay, a four-time PGA Tour winner who is now a golf analyst for the Golf Channel and NBC Sports. “It’s about putting the focus on the children of New Mexico and helping them.”

This year’s partners are: El Ranchito de los NiƱos, Keres Children’s Learning Center and Osuna Elementary.
