Albuquerque fire officials say a small fire that broke out near Tramway and Paseo del Norte NE on Tuesday afternoon was sparked by a flaming pigeon.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue spokesman Tom Ruiz said the bird somehow caused a power line to short.

“The bird, who caught on fire as a result of shorting out the power line, fell to the ground and started the brush on fire,” Ruiz said.

The fire burned a section of brush in between the Tramway Bike Trail and a retaining wall near San Bernardino NE. No humans were injured, and no property was damaged, Ruiz said.

Ruiz said he believes the bird responsible was a pigeon. The fate of the pigeon is unclear.
