ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — People with active bench warrants are invited to Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court’s safe surrender event next weekend where they will “receive favorable consideration in exchange for coming in to resolve the matter.”

According to a news release, private defense attorneys, public defenders and local prosecutors will be on site to offer advice and to discuss potential plea agreements ahead of any appearances before a judge.

“Safe Surrender gives individuals a chance to work with a judge to address outstanding bench warrants and avoid the risk of being arrested during a routine traffic stop or at home in front of family,” Court Executive Officer Robert L. Padilla said in the release.

The event is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Metro Court, which is located at Fourth and Lomas NW in Downtown Albuquerque. Free parking is available in the garage to the north of the courthouse.

To find out if you have an active warrant, call the court’s warrant hotline at 505-841-8123, or visit

“Individuals will be able to walk out with their case(s) resolved or with an upcoming court date and in good standing with the Court,” Padilla said.
