UPDATED: Lavaland Elementary on Lockdown Following Police Situation

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Police have one into custody this morning after the man, who was “experiencing a mental crisis” barricaded himself  into a house on 58th NW.

APD spokesman Robert Gibbs said Lavaland Elementary school was on partial lock-down for a time, but that order has been lifted.

Gibbs said that APD got a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. that a young male subject inside a residence at 450 58th NW, who was experiencing a mental crisis and threatening suicide. At the time the call was received, it was unknown if the male subject was armed. Once officers arrived, it was ascertained the subject may, in fact, be armed with a handgun.

While the SWAT team was not activated, K-9 units on scene and flash-bangs were deployed.
