ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Border Patrol agents searched the vehicle after a dog alerted to the truck and the driver acted unusually and gave conflicting information during questioning
Four people the U.S. Border Patrol says were being smuggled into the United States were found by agents at an Interstate 25 checkpoint after a dog alerted to a Ford pickup truck, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
The newspaper said the agents from the Border Patrol’s Las Cruces station found two females hidden in the back seat of the pickup and two females hidden in a compartment in the under belly of the vehicle near the rear differential.
The Sun-News reported that according to a news release, the dog alerted to the truck Saturday as the pickup approached the checkpoint. The agents then questioned the driver, who the news release said acted unusually and gave conflicting information, before searching the vehicle after asking and receiving permission from the driver, according to the newspaper.
