LAS CRUCES – For the second straight year, Las Cruces is ranked best-run city in New Mexico according to WalletHub, a personal finance website.
The new ranking also lists Las Cruces as 11th best-run city in the nation. Albuquerque is at 31 and El Paso is at 40.
Last year, Las Cruces was ranked the sixth best-run city in the nation and in 2016 it was ranked the 12th best.
WalletHub reports it measured the effectiveness of local leadership by how well city officials manage and spend public funds by comparing the quality of services residents receive against the city’s total budget.
WalletHub compared 150 of the most populated cities in America in six categories: Financial stability, education, health, safety, economy and infrastructure and pollution.
It then calculated an overall “Quality of City Services” score for each city based on its weighted average across all the metrics. Finally, for each city, WalletHub divided the Quality of City Services score by the “Total Budget per Capita” (dollar amount) to rank-order the cities.
“I want to congratulate my colleagues on the City Council, City Manager Stuart Ed, and his executive team for a job well done,” Mayor Ken Miyagishima said in a prepared statement. “Furthermore, I want to thank our hard-working city associates for all they do, they are the backbone of our organization.”
