Cyclist Killed on Paseo Del Norte Bike Path

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A bicyclist was killed Monday afternoon while riding ahead of his family when a driver lost control of her vehicle on Paseo del Norte.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy Lawrence Koren said the victim, who was not identified, was on a bike path with his family when a woman lost control of her vehicle while eastbound on Paseo at about 4:48 p.m. She crashed through the fence on the south side, striking the man on the path.

Deputies reopened eastbound lanes of Paseo del Norte at about 8:45 p.m., about four hours after the accident, which occurred a short distance west of Rio Grande Blvd. on the bike path along the south frontage of Paseo del Norte.

Koren said there was no further information available late Monday and he was not aware of any details about an arrest. The driver was not identified. There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved, he said.
