Hollywood A-lister Rosario Dawson’s latest project is coming to Albuquerque.

USA Network television pilot “Briarpatch” will begin principal photography in Albuquerque in September.

bright spot“We welcome another great show to New Mexico,” said New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis. “… Paramount Television’s commitment to New Mexico as a place to produce content such as ‘Briarpatch’ continues to serve as a great indicator for future productions in New Mexico.”

“Briarpatch” follows Allegra Dill, played by Dawson, a dogged investigator returning to her border-town Texas home after her sister is killed by a car bomb. What begins as a search for a killer turns into an all-consuming fight to bring the corrupt hometown Dill thought she left behind to its knees.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, “Briarpatch” will employ about 200 New Mexico crew members and 350 to 450 New Mexico background talent workers.

” ‘Briarpatch’ has a special place in our heart, as it was the first production to commit to coming to Albuquerque after I started as the city’s film liaison,” Alicia J. Keyes said. “In addition, they gave one of our women’s Lobo basketball players her first job in the industry as a (production assistant). We love being able to connect our local New Mexicans to these job opportunities.”

Based on the Ross Thomas novel of the same name, “Briarpatch” is written for television by Andy Greenwald, who will be executive producer, along with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, through his production company, Esmail Corp. and Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton.

Dawson is also serving as producer. Ana Lilly Amirpour will direct.
