COACHING

YOU’RE HIRED!: West Las Vegas has filled its vacancies for the fall sports of girls soccer and cross-country. Dennis Marquez, who has nine years of soccer coaching experience from the youth to the high school level, will take over the girls soccer program, while former Pecos coach Clyde Sanchez will take on the boys and girls cross-country teams.

FOOTBALL

PROMOTED: Interim head coach Pat Mares on Monday was elevated to head coach for the Pojoaque Valley football team. Mares has been running the team for about a month after the unexpected departure of former head coach Jorgé Oropeza.

ULTRA RUNNING

TOP WOMAN: Santa Fe resident Katie Arnold won the Leadville (Colo.) Trail 100 Run on Saturday, finishing in a time of 19 hours, 53 minutes, 40 seconds. Arnold, 46, maintained a pace of 11:57 to finish 11th overall among 713 competitors and first among the 138 women.

MORE GOLF: In its previous 19 years, the annual Fore Kids Golf Tournament at the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe has raised almost $210,000. Registration is now open for the Aug. 31 tournament that raises money to provide scholarships for youth to play golf and enjoy the Genoveva Chavez Community Center.
