Police ID woman found fatally injured in NE Albuquerque last week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have identified a woman found severely injured in front of a Northeast Albuquerque fire station last week as 23-year-old Stephanie Martinez.

On Aug. 20, around 11:30 a.m. firefighters and rescue workers found Martinez in front of the fire station on the 2500 block of Quincy NE, near San Mateo and Menaul. The Albuquerque Fire Rescue ambulance took her to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she died.

Gilbert Gallegos, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said she had been shot.

Martinez’s death is being investigated as a homicide, and marks the 50th homicide in city limits since the beginning of the year. There have also been five homicides that APD detectives determined were justified and six homicides in the county, including one BCSO detectives determined was justified.

No one has been arrested in Martinez’s death and police have not announced any suspects.
