Sports Speak Up! Readers applaud Lobo football, want sports to be saved

IMPRESSIVE WIN for our Lobos over a overmatched Incarnate Word team on a gorgeous, fall-like night at the football stadium. QB Tuioti played lights out in OC Magee’s newly minted spread offense. Looks like we finally have the crucial run-pass balance this year, and not the run dominated offense of years past. Looking forward to us competing again in the MWC and our fans returning to the stadium when we string together some wins in our now unpredictable, high octane offense. On to Madison, Wisconsin!

— George Scott

FOR THE FIRST TIME in seven years UNM discovered the forward pass and advantages of a balanced offense. Bad news — it happened against … a glorified Texas high school team that would have difficulty beating NMMI or Western NM.

I LIKE STOKES/NUÑEZ. As newbies they made a horrendous mistake. Last night men’s lame-duck soccer shredded (No. 30!) Cal State Fullerton 5-1. The announcer for CSF noted UNM soccer top 5 in attendance in the country. Failure to ask friendly legislators for money first (is) gross negligence. I’m a loyal alum who supports all men’s/ladies’ sports for 44 years. My family has 5 degrees from UNM, 3 graduate. Cutting soccer is sacrilegious. If not reversed by February, 2019, I will end all affiliation, sever ties, cease donations. Fix it now Garnett/Eddie, or else! Beach volleyball too!
