AHS Hall of Fame to induct 4

The Albuquerque High School Athletics Hall of Fame will induct four new members at the school’s Bulldog Breakfast of Champions on Sept. 15.

They are:

Robin Knight, Class of 1936;

Clarence Bass, Class of ‘55;

Jalen Dominguez, Class of 2004; and

Frank Olguin, Class of ‘77.

The Hall of Fame also will honor the 2017 state champion AHS boys soccer team.

Knight was a football and track letterman who won state titles in the long jump and the 120-yard high hurdles. He lettered in track and field and UNM in 1938, ‘39 and ‘40.

Bass was a state champion in the pentathlon and a medal-winner in wrestling. He became a city, state and national champion in Olympic-style weightlifting, a champion bodybuilder and the author of 10 books on fitness and health.

Dominguez was a basketball letterman and team captain who was named all-district and played in the 2004 North-South prep all-star game. He played basketball at New Mexico State and is an assistant athletic director for development at UNM. He’s a member of AHS all-time basketball team.

Olguin was a starting guard on the Bulldogs’ 1977 boys basketball state champions. Like Dominguez, he’s a member of the AHS all-time team and played in the 1977 North-South game.

The 2017 AHS boys soccer team, coached by Lucien Starzynski, beat La Cueva 3-2 for the Class 6A state title last fall.

The Breakfast of Champions registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 15. The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $25 per person. Checks may be made out to AHS Alumni Association and mailed to:
