ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Albuquerque case will get some more national attention on Friday.

“Dateline NBC” will delve further into the case of Brittani Marcell.

The episode — titled “The Match” — will air at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, on NBC.

“Dateline NBC” correspondent Andrea Canning traveled to Albuquerque to sit down with the Marcell family.

Brittani Marcell, now 27, was attacked in her West Side home in 2008 by an intruder who left behind a drop of blood as he escaped out a back window after Marcell’s mother interrupted the beating.

Justin Hansen, now 34, was arrested in 2017 after detectives DNA-tested a cup he threw away at a fast-food restaurant and found that his profile matched the one found at the crime scene. He has maintained his innocence.

Hansen was convicted in the near deadly beating and sentenced to the maximum 18 years in prison in July.

Marcell’s case shocked the community, but it went unsolved for years.

Over those years, Marcell had to relearn to walk, talk and eat. She is deaf in one ear and blind in one eye.

The “Dateline NBC” piece begins with Marcell, who worked at a sunglass kiosk at the Cottonwood Mall, and the story of how she met Hansen while working there.
