Aggie men’s golf to open season Friday

LAS CRUCES  – The New Mexico State men’s golf team opens up the 2018-19 season at the 50th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs at the Eisenhower Golf Club, Friday-Sunday. The U.S. Air Force Academy hosts the season opener with the Aggies and Falcons being joined by 14 other squads.

Along with host Air Force, NMSU is met on the links by Abilene Christian, Colorado, Drake, Missouri State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, SIUE, Southern Utah, Texas State, UC Davis, Utah State, Utah Valley State. Weber State and Wyoming.

The starting lineup for the Aggies at the tournament will be Tadhg Campbell, Davis Chung, Cameron Gambini, Ryo Harada and Michael McGilton. Hogan Molthan is set to compete as an individual. Gambini and Molthan are freshmen making their collegiate debut.

Tournament play is scheduled for a three-day, 54-hole event. Golfers open up the action with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. MT for the first and second on Sept. 7-8, followed by a tee time starting at 7:30 a.m. for the final round on Sept. 9. Teams are set to compete on the Eisenhower Blue Course, named after former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who took part in the dedication ceremony. The course is a 7,511-yard, par-72 layout that is currently ranked as the third best military course in the nation by PGA.com and listed as the 24th best college course in the country by GolfWeek.

Following the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, the New Mexico State men’s golf team heads north to compete at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico, Sept. 28-29.
