It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization, providing financial support for year-round activities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, organizers said in a news release.
“The purpose of this walk is to increase advocacy and awareness in our community and an opportunity to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome,” said Donyelle Lucero, Buddy Walk Committee chair, in a statement.
The event includes partner activities with the Duke City Gladiators, Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, food trucks, a performance by the U.S. Navy Funk Band, and games and activities with the City of Albuquerque and Girl Scouts of America, according to a news release.
“The quality of life for people with Down syndrome has increased significantly over the past three decades, and we’re seeing more and more individuals with Down syndrome being integrated into our communities,” Lucero said. “Buddy Walks around the nation help in furthering acceptance while helping provide families with the critical support and resources they need.”
