Las Cruces officer involved in fatal shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Las Cruces Police Department and the Multi-Agency Officer-involved Incident Task Force is investigating a deadly shooting during a domestic violence call Thursday night.

One of the police officers responding to a domestic disturbance at a home on the 2400 block of Tiffany Drive fired his weapon hitting a 47-year-old man according to a news release from the Las Cruces Police Department.

The man identified as Gary McKinney was pronounced dead after he was  transported to a hospital. A portion of Tiffany Drive shut down Thursday night after the shooting remained closed Friday morning.

The officer who fired his weapon is on administrative leave which is standard practice.

The task force investigating the incident includes the Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico State Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
