What would be your top priorities as New Mexico’s attorney general?
My highest priorities are 1) prosecuting corruption of all government officials that break the law regardless of party affiliation, 2) fixing a broken family law system by addressing the violations of civil rights by the judiciary and providing opinion to the legislature, and 3) protecting our water resources.
What would be your approach to ongoing litigation on water right issues with the neighboring state of Texas?
I believe that New Mexico is in a difficult situation that will not be alleviated thru a litigation strategy in the case with Texas. I think there needs to be a engineering solution to deal with the Texas litigation. Further, I believe that Texas is engaged in the same conduct in the Pecos River Valley that they have sued New Mexico for on the Rio Grande. I believe that we must address the ground water depletion by pumpers in Texas.
Would you support or oppose changing a 2012 law to clarify that judges can order the pensions of convicted public officials be forfeited?
Support.
Would you support or oppose requiring that all content captured by body cameras worn by law enforcement officers be publicly available under the state’s Inspection of Public Records Act?
Support
In addition, do you favor of oppose strengthening penalties for violating the Inspection of Public Records Act? Please explain.
I do. I also believe that the Attorney General’s office should not be allowed to shield records from public under attorney-client privilege the way that the current attorney general is doing.
