ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — About 135 new homes will rise at Mesa del Sol over the next two years.

That’s according to homebuilder Westway Homes, which on Thursday said it has acquired 31 acres from the previous property owner Hektar LLC for an undisclosed sum. Construction on the first group of homes will begin following lot preparation, said a Westway official.

In July, the homebuilder said it purchased three acres near Stryker and University from MDS Funding to build a dozen new homes. MDS is the newly formed investment group that previously acquired 2,800 acres within Mesa del Sol, a 12,900-acre master-planned community of commercial and residential properties.

Along with the new residences, Westway said it will build two parks in the subdivision, located southwest of the Aperture Center.

“Westway Homes is excited to expand within the Mesa del Sol development,” said Michael Fietz, owner of the company, in a statement. The goal is to build “modern, affordable homes within an established community designed for a comfortable work/life balance.”

Westway is currently the only active residential builder at Mesa del Sol.

“They are highly-skilled partners supporting residential progress and infrastructure,” said Steven B. Chavez, managing partner of MDS, in a statement. “Their efforts are an integral part of our growth and revitalization.”

Westway Homes will offer two residential styles. The first called the “Residencia” series will feature traditional homes with a modern flair, including one- and two-story options with floor plans ranging from 2,200 to 3,000 square feet. The second is an “ultra-modern” home design called AlbuqUrban with floor plans ranging from 1,600 to 2,000 square feet. Pricing starts at $200,000.

Westway also has been active in the Belen market. The company’s De La Reina subdivision in Belen will be home to 92 houses, a pocket park and storage units for the homeowners, according to the company.
