Two more teens held in fatal Espanola shooting

SANTA FE — State Police have arrested two more juveniles in the shooting death of an 18-year-old Española man.

Katryna Moya, 17, and Alejandra Gonzalez, 16, were taken into custody at their residences in Española around 9 p.m. Tuesday, State Police Lt. Elizabeth Armijo said in a news release.

The teens are charged with tampering with evidence, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence in the death of Cameron Martinez, a 2018 Española Valley High School graduate.

Martinez and three others who were riding in a Subaru WRX when they were shot around 9 p.m. last Thursday near the Ohkay Hotel Casino, by a group of young gunmen riding in two separate cars. Martinez died at the scene, and the others were treated for injuries.

Mark Timothy Hice, 22, Anton Martinez, 19, and Axel Zamarron, 17, have been charged with murder and other counts. Hice’s girlfriend, Brittany Garcia, 21, has been charged with tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

According to arrest warrant affidavits, Hice and Anton Martinez shot at the Subaru from a Kia Optima that Garcia was driving, and Zamarron shot from a tan Nissan that Gonzalez was driving. Moya was a passenger in the Nissan.

Hice allegedly conspired with Anton Martinez and Zamarron to shoot anyone who Hice thought was a threat to him. Hice told police that he believed people in the Subaru were going to shoot him, but officers determined that the defendants and the victims had no prior relationship and that shooting at the Subaru was a mistake.

After the shooting, Lt. Armijo said, Moya and Gonzalez helped Hice dispose of evidence and hide the cars that were involved.

Hice and Garcia surrendered to Sate Police in Albuquerque on Saturday. Hice also faces charges for shooting at another vehicle just hours before the deadly shooting. No one was injured in that incident.
