Arrest made in Santa Fe homicide

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old boy in the shooting death of a Michigan man on Airport Road late last month.

Zachary Gutierrez was arrested by detectives Thursday for the killing of 64-year-old Richard Milan on Sept. 26, according to a news release. Police say Milan — who was driving from California back to Kalamazoo, Mich., and stopped in Santa Fe to visit family — was walking his dog on Airport Road that evening when he encountered a group of young people near Lucia Lane.

Milan was shot in the leg and later died at the hospital. Gutierrez, who has been in police custody since Saturday on different crimes, is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.
