APD: Pedestrian dead following hit-and-run crash in SE Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A driver fled after fatally striking a pedestrian in southeast Albuquerque Wednesday night, according to police.

Albuquerque police spokesman Daren DeAguero said the hit-and-run occurred near Mesilla and Central, but didn’t have a vehicle description.

“The intersection is closed as the investigation continues,” he said.

Police vehicles and yellow tape blocked westbound lanes of Central as a body lay in the center of the street outside the American Inn and Suites.

A couple who own a laundromat across the street said the man had just left their business when they heard a loud bang and came outside to see him laying in the street. The couple said whoever hit the man had kept driving.
