A look back at the top sports stories in northern New Mexico
RIDING TO VICTORY: St. Michael’s powered past three-time defending champion Sandia Prep on Saturday to claim the Class 3A championship. With scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-14, 25-17, the Lady Horsemen (23-3) grabbed their first volleyball title in 16 years.
A CLOSE CALL: Robertson (16-9) reached the 3A semifinals before being knocked out by St. Mike’s 25-22, 25-20, 25-21. And Pecos reached the 2A semifinals and threw a scare into eventual champion Texico before losing 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17.
THINGS TO SEE OR DO:
BASEBALL: Have the kids work off a little bit of that turkey during the Thanksgiving break skills camp Saturday. The camp runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the ENG Baseball Academy, 730 Alto Street. For more information, call 316-6693.
HOCKEY: Youngsters can try hockey for free Saturday at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. Equipment will be available from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for youth aged 4-9 who want to give the sport a try. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
