SANTA FE — The pilot in a fatal crash of a small plane near the Santa Fe Airport Monday night has been was identified as 73-year-old Larry Nelson of Wheatridge, Colo.
There were no passengers on board when Nelson apparently attempted to land at the airport about 7:50 p.m., a city spokesman said.
The National Transportation Safety Board has taken over the crash investigation.
The small private aircraft crashed just south of the airport. The airplane was a single-engine Mooney M20, Santa Fe city spokesman Matt Ross said in a news release.
The plane was destroyed by fire.
