And just like that, Chevel Shepherd moves to the next round on “The Voice.”
The 16-year-old New Mexico native was the first to be called from Kelly Clarkson’s team during the Tuesday night result show.
She garnered enough votes from Monday night’s performance, where she sang Loretta Lynn’s “You’re Lookin’ at Country.”
Clarkson said she couldn’t think of a more perfect song for Shepherd.
“I think what’s magical about you is that you’re young and fresh sound with the older stuff,” Clarkson told Shepherd during the broadcast. “Chevel is that reminder to everybody of why you fell in love with country music and the storytelling and just the pure authentic vibe.”
Shepherd said she would love to make a record and play the Grand Ole Opry.
“I would love to make an old school country record lie Loretta Lynn,” Shepherd said. “I want to sing there one day.”
Shepherd moves on to the top eight contestants and will perform again on Monday night.
On Tuesday night’s broadcast, all four judges praised Shepherd’s talent and likability.
“Chevel Shepherd can be a country star right now,” Clarkson said.
