Runners Fall to Elite in Regular Season Opener, 10-8
RIO RANCHO — The New Mexico Runners, making their Major Arena Soccer League 2 regular season debut, fell 10-8 Saturday night to in-state rival Santa Fe Elite before a crowd announced at 1,015 in the Santa Ana Star Center.
Jaime “Chiva” Rodriguez had a fantastic game for the home team, scoring three of its eight goals, two of them coming in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. Five other players scored one goal each in a balanced attack. Elite improved to 1-1.
“We learned some new things with this being our first regular season game and it opened our eyes on what we need to work on,” Runners coach Steve Famiglietta said.
The Runners will continue on to the home stand against the Colorado Inferno on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 5:05 at the Santa Ana Star Center. Tickets start at $10 and doors will open at 4 p.m.
