New Mexico State announces 15 football signees

LAS CRUCES – New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin and staff made announced 15 commitments had signed on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The new class of Aggie student-athletes features nine offensive talents and six on the defensive side of the ball.

Martin said NMSU hopes to sign 10 more players, mostly defenders, in February.

“Our coaches have done a great job of filling our immediate needs and building for the future,” Martin said. “We have recruited length and speed in this class and feel like this is an outstanding group.”


Christopher Bell

2018 (Sophomore): Played in eight games during his sophomore campaign with the Pirates… Recorded 14 tackles… Had a season-high four tackles against Iowa Central CC on 10/27… Had his sole interception in the season finale with a 20-yard return against Ellsworth CC on 11/10.


2017 (Freshman): Began his collegiate career at Independence CC helping the Pirates to a 9-2 record as a freshman… Wrapped up his first year with 32 tackles… Forced three turnovers with two interceptions and one fumble recovery… Two picks and one fumble recovery all came in a 44-38 win over Ellsworth CC on 10/7.


High School: Played his final two seasons of varsity football at Pope John Paul II… Recorded 62 tackles (53 solo) in his senior season… Reeled in one interception during the 2016 season… Added three receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown in his senior campaign.


Michael Bowe Jr.

2018 (Redshirt Sophomore): Played eight games for San Francisco in 2018… Helped the team to a winning season going 7-4 during his sophomore campaign… Recorded 30 tackles (17 solo)… Posted four games with four or more tackles in 2018… Had a season-high eight tackles against Laney on 10/13… Recorded a pair of pass breakups in his first three games of the season.


2017 (Redshirt Freshman): Played his redshirt freshman season at Independence CC… Led the Pirates to a 9-2 record to end his rookie year… Played in nine games and registered 26 tackles… Registered a season-high 10 tackles in a 30-16 win over Fort Scott CC on 9/2… Had six tackles and added a [ass breakup in a 27-23 victory over Garden City CC on 9/9.


2016 (Freshman): Redshirted


High School: Played varsity football at American Heritage HS under head coach Mike Rumph… Helped the Patriots to a 9-2 overall record in 2015… Went undefeated in district play going 5-0 during his senior campaign… Had 13 total tackles over six games played as a senior… Added one tackle for loss and had a fumble recovery in his final year.

2017 (Freshman): Played in 12 games during his rookie season at Fullerton CC… Hauled in 24 receptions for 329 yards and four touchdowns… Had a season-high four receptions for 67 yards with one score in a 56-35 win over Saddleback on 10/21… Had at least one reception in 12 games during the 2017 season.


High School: Played varsity football at Valley Christian HS… Was a running back and wide receiver during his high school career… Also played three years of varsity basketball.

2017 (Freshman): Helped ASA New York to a 9-1 overall record and 2-0 mark in conference during his freshman season… Blocked for a line that allowed the offense to average 466.1 yards of total offense per game… Played on an offensive line that allowed the Avengers to gain 2,943 passing yards and 1,718 on the ground… Protected an offense that scored 41.9 points per game with a total of 32 passing and 19 rushing scores.


High School: Played varsity football at Friendship Collegiate Academy HS under head coach Mike Hunter… Helped lead the Knights to a 10-2 overall record in his senior campaign… Also played for the USA Football Under-17 National team in 2015.

2017 (Freshman): Played in 12 games as a rookie at Trinity Valley CC… Posted 44 total tackles (29 solo) with five for loss and four sacks… Had two forced fumbles in 2017… Recorded a season-high six tackles in two games… Made his first sack in a 25-19 win at Navarro College on 9/2.


High School: Played three seasons of varsity football at Guyer HS under head coach John Walsh… Led the Wildcats to a 34-8 overall record and 19-2 mark in district play over his three years… Played in 13 games during his senior campaign registering 61 total tackles with 22 for loss… Added four sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in his final season… Had 60 tackles with 13 for loss as a junior… Recorded one interception and added a pair of forced fumbles with one recovery in 2014… Was a part of the 2013 Conference 4A D1 State Champion Wildcats taking down Brennan, 31-14, on 12/20 at AT&T Stadium.

2017 (Redshirt Sophomore): Played in 11 games with seven starts… Caught first 41 passes of career for 344 yards while rushing career-high four times for career-best 41 yards… Had two catches for 15 yards at No. 10 TCU… Started vs. No. 3 Oklahoma, had career highs of seven catches for 74 yards and career-long 41-yard grab, rushed one time for four yards, had two punt returns for 47 yards, including 42-yard return, for 125 all-purpose yards… Made first collegiate start vs. Liberty, caught first five career passes for 28 yards.

2017 (Freshman): Began his freshman season as an offensive lineman at Ventura College… Led the team to an 8-3 overall record and 5-0 mark in conference as a rookie… Helped the Pirates offense put up 496.5 yards of total offense per game… Blocked for a passing attack that put up 3.404 yards and 38 touchdowns… Led the blocking for a ground attack that produced for 2,057 rushing yards and 21 scores.


High School: Played three years of varsity football at Central Valley Christian HS… Led the Cavaliers to a 27-9 overall record in his three seasons… Named a team captain for his senior season… Blocked for an offense that scored 44 total touchdowns with 11 through the air and 33 on the ground to close out his senior campaign… Anchored a line that allowed for 1,064 passing and 2,707 rushing yards in his final season… Led the team to the 2014 CIF Central Section Division IV State Championship game as a junior…. 2017 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in 10 games at Bowling Green, starting in the win at Miami … Had four catches for 45 yards with all of those totals coming at Northwestern … Had a season-long 21-yard reception against the Wildcats.


2016 (Freshman): Redshirted in his first season at Bowling Green.


High School: A three-year letterwinner for football at Wylie East High School… Played for head coach Joe Lepsis… Also lettered in basketball and track… Was a two-time captain… Finished his high school career with 145 catches for 2,900 yards and 42 touchdowns… Named a unanimous first team All-District 10-5A wide receiver in both his junior and senior seasons… Made 35 catches for 891 yards and 16 touchdowns his senior season… Caught 68 passes for 1,043 yards and 14 scores his junior year… As a sophomore made 47 catches for 947 yards and 12 TDs… Was part of the Raider-to-Raider mentoring program at Wylie East.
