THE UNM VOLLEYBALL season ended Nov. 17, yet UNM chose to cut ties with Jeff Nelson a few days before Christmas? Nothing at S. University Blvd. surprises us anymore. Even though a recent .500 team, nobody can say Nelson didn’t step up for his players as he took on the MWC several years ago about the lack of TV exposure for his team. Speaking up about the lack of funding and scolding the regents might have had something to do with the decision? Walk out with your head held high, Jeff. Merry Christmas? At the very least, good luck.

THIS LADY LOBOS team is so deep and talented that they are committing way too many unforced turnovers and still blowing teams out! As the season progresses, they will need to learn how to value possessions, especially when managing the clock and when leading by big margins. I’ve never seen so many athletic players on one Lobo team — ballhandling, defense, rebounding. Wow! Love to have Auburn back in the Pit now.

JRM-CORRALES said Weir needs to start signing the same players as Duke and Kentucky. Problem Solved. Well JRM, if a kid has an offer from Duke or from New Mexico who do you think they’re going to chose 99.99% of the time? I’m thinking the former. If this team can’t even compete with NMSU on the court how do you expect them to snag those top -notch recruits? Problem not solved.

I for one thought JRC-Corrales was writing in tongue-in-cheek and doesn’t expect UNM ordinarily to land recruits Kentucky and Duke want. — Randy, Journal
THE DEFINITION of Lobos Basketball is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

JUST LIKE Jimmy Chitwood quoted in Hoosiers, “Coach stays, I stay… Coach goes, I go”. Albuquerque Journal posted: “Ray Stays” … I’m sticking with Lobo Baseball! Finally UNM comes to their senses and signs a contract!

THIS COMING JULY it will have been 50 years since the United States first had a man walking on the moon, yet nobody can get UNM’s sound system at either Dreamstyle Stadium or the Pit to work properly. And it is the “Pit Experience” but until UNM gets back to Top 25 status, if they want more fans in the building they need to come down on their $25 minimum ticket price … .
