State Police released the names of deputies and a suspect involved in a police shooting in Bluewater Village on Dec. 6 that left one man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The State Police Investigations Bureau, called to investigate a shooting involving the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office, said that about 11:30 a.m. on that date deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant on John Guerin, 76, at a mobile home in Bluewater Village.
At least one gunshot was fired from inside his residence toward deputies as they approached the front door, State Police said in a news release Friday.
At that point, deputies Kimery Ward, Anthony Kemp and Alan Roane fired their weapons toward the front window of the trailer, police said. Deputies then set up a perimeter and requested a State Police tactical team. As tactical and crisis negotiations officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from inside the mobile home.
Tactical and K-9 officers went inside and found Guerin inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, State Police said. Next to Guerin was a .22-caliber handgun, State Police said.
