McSorley, D-Albuquerque, resigned from his District 16 post to accept an appointment heading the state’s Probation and Parole Division in Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s administration.
McSorley has represented the University of New Mexico-area district as a senator since 1997.
The Legislature starts Tuesday, and the County aims to name McSorley’s replacement on Monday. The County Commission has the authority to appoint someone for the role.

The deadline to apply is noon Friday. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 25 years old, and reside in the district.
The commission will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. Monday to name the new senator.
