BOZEMAN, Mont. — The University of New Mexico men’s ski team’s alpine squad won the giant slalom, and the Lobo women took third as UNM finished Wednesday in second place through the first two events of the eight-team Montana State University Invitational.
Top Lobo skiers were Vegard Busengdal (senior, Stordal, Norway) fourth among the men, and Sona Moravcikova (freshman, Bratislava, Slovakia), fifth among the women. Both had the second-fastest times in the second of two runs. The track was tricky — 40 percent of the female skiers and 38.3 percent of the males didn’t record a finish.
Competition resumes Thursday with giant slalom qualifiers used to score points to gain entry into the NCAAs in March.
